Muffled audio & underwater effect
Make a voice recording or song sound muffled, submerged or heard from outside a club. Choose a preset, adjust the depth, then compare the result with your original.
Hear a demo
Record up to 10 minutes. Your microphone turns off when you stop or cancel. Preview your recording before processing.
Long recordings and large files take more time to process.

Choose your muffled sound
- Muffled softens bright sounds and consonants. Try it for dialogue heard through a door or a voice that needs to sound distant.
- Underwater removes more high-frequency detail and adds a slow pitch wobble for a submerged, swaying sound.
- Outside the club leaves mostly low frequencies with a little bass lift, like music heard through a venue wall.
How to muffle audio online
- Upload a recording or song up to 100 MB, or try the sample voice.
- Choose a sound and move Depth to adjust it. You can hear all three presets in the demo above.
- Apply the effect, compare your original with the processed audio, then download MP3, WAV, FLAC or OGG.
How does the underwater audio effect work?
All three presets reduce high frequencies. Underwater also adds a gentle, repeating pitch wobble, while Outside the club adds some low bass. Increasing Depth makes those changes stronger. At 0%, all filtering, wobble and bass changes are off.
The recording keeps its length and stereo channels. The effect does not add water sounds or a reverb tail. Keep a copy of your original: removing bright detail can make speech harder to understand, especially at high depth.
Can this fix a muffled recording?
This tool makes clear audio sound muffled. It cannot restore missing detail or remove background noise. If a recording is simply too quiet, try Normalize Audio.
For a short scene, trim the part you want before adding the effect. Use Phone Effect for a telephone sound, or Slowed + Reverb to slow a track down and add some room sound.
