What −16 LUFS means for your recording
LUFS measures how loud a recording sounds overall. Peak normalization looks at the highest sample instead. Adjusting overall loudness helps when you've recorded voice clips separately and want them to play at a similar volume.
We use FFmpeg with targets of −16 LUFS, 11 LU of loudness range and −1.5 dBTP true peak. The result can vary with your recording and output format, so these are targets rather than guaranteed final readings. Normalization won't repair clipping or other audio damage, or separate speech from background noise. Very quiet passages may still need work.
